Using attapulgite clay for Higher Yields Suspension Fertilizer and Liquid Pesticide

Mar. 24, 2023

The unique properties of our suspension agent are of particular value to suspension and foliar fertilizer Liquid Pesticide users because little viscosity results when the suspension is under shear, allowing the mix to pass through application spray nozzles easily and uniformly.

When shear is stopped during transport or storage a thick gel forms suspending insolubles and stabilizing the mix. Suspensions produced with powder suspension agent are unaffected by salts which are present in most fertilizer and Liquid Pesticide formulations. Coarser and finer powder suspension agent are offered and provide different advantages depending on the type of mixing systems and equipment being used. The applications typically require finer grades of powder suspension agent.

Using attapulgite clay for Higher Yields Suspension Fertilizer and Liquid Pesticide

Four attpulgite clays from China were evaluated for use in diammonium phosphate (DAP) or urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) fertilizer suspensions and Liquid Pesticide. The viscosity and gel strength of suspensions prepared with different proportions of a Western attapulgite clay and sodium-exchanged Attapulgite clays were measured as a function of clay content and dispersant concentration. The results obtained suggested that three of the attapulgite would replace about 40% of the more expensive attapulgite in UAN and DAP fertilizer suspensions. The performance of the natural clays, prepared according to the Tennessee Valley Authority soda ash method, was as good or even better than those observed for the Mg-, Na/M g- or K-modified bentonite clays. The 100% clay mineral procedure appears to be reliable and cost effective.
